Cannabis energy bites

What automatically comes to your mind when you think of Cannabis edibles? Likely dreams of brownies, peanut butter cookies, and Nanaimo bars: the delicious but unhealthy standards! But guess what? Edibles can actually be really healthy. The typical goodie is full of refined sugars, dyes, saturated fats, and unhealthy calories, but it doesn’t have to be that way! Although it can be fun to indulge, those who make a habit of eating edibles might desire a healthier alternative that won’t steal from their well being. Raw Cannabis Energy Bites are here to pack some nutritional value while they’re at it. Health is Wealth, am I right?

These bite-sized treats are easy to pack for those of us on-the-go. They’re quick to make, involve no baking (no smell!), they’re super yummy, and most importantly they’re really good for you.

To start you’ll need 2 things:

  1. 1 Jar of Miss Envy Coconut Oil
  2. A blender (only some of the recipes require it!)

Coconut oil contains a wealth of healthy fats in the form of MCFA’s (medium-chain fatty-acids), also known as MCTs (medium-chain triglycerides). Although MCFAs are a saturated fat, they’re naturally occurring and actually really good for you. A large part of coconut oils’ acclaimed benefits can be attributed to the MCFAs it contains. The thick, white oil is not only extremely easy to digest, but actually a great metabolism booster. Because of the MCFA’s in coconut oil, it’s a great form of pure energy- the body is able to easily convert its high fat content into useable energy for fuel.

These recipes can be adjusted for your personal taste and are simply guidelines for making these energy bites. The base of every ball is a nut, an oil (coconut), and a binder. From there on out it’s a matter of flavour experimentation. The dose I have suggested is 20 mg per bite, dosing depends on the person but as a general rule of thumb, 1 ball will be nice mellow high, two will create a solid buzz, and chronic edible users can eat up to 3 bites at a time. Below are a few ideas to get you started.

Chocolate Hazelnut Bites

Chocolaty with an aroma reminiscent of Nutella, these balls are laced with mood elevating, raw cacao powder. Be careful though, cocoa and cacao are different. Cocoa is the sugary brown powder used in most baking and hot chocolate mixes. Cacao however, is the raw version that comes straight from ground cacao beans. The best part about it is it’s amazing for you, it’s energy boosting, an aphrodisiac, and a potent antioxidant. It’s a bit bitter, so we mix in some dates to counteract the bite and keep it sweet.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cup Hazelnuts (soaked for 1 hour)
  • ½ cup Dates (pitted and soaked for 1 hour)
  • ⅓ cup Raw Cacao powder
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 2 tbsp Maca powder (optional)
  • 6 tsp of Miss Envy Coconut oil, melted (120 mg per batch)

The joy of these balls is the simplicity in preparing them. All you have to do is combine the above in a good blender or food processor. Blend until the consistency becomes dough-ey and the coconut oil is well dispersed throughout. Then divide the dough into 6 and roll it between the palms to create little balls. Throw them in the fridge to solidify a little bit. If you don’t plan on eating them all within a week you can freeze them and then de-thaw them as you need!

Almond Cranberry & Hemp Bites

Almonds are a great, clean source of protein. They offer lots of fibre, healthy fats, vitamin E, and magnesium. These bites are super filling, and a great snack after/before the gym or during a hike. Cranberries give them a nice sweet bite and provide instant energy and antioxidants. Hemp, as we know is the superfood of all superfoods.

Ingredients

  • 2 cup almond flour (you can buy this pre-ground, so no blender necessary)
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 3 drops of almond extract (be careful not to over do this, as almond extract is strong!)
  • ¼ cup hulled hemp hearts
  • 4 tsp dried cranberries
  • 6 tsp of Miss Envy Coconut oil, melted (120 mg per batch)

Mix everything together except the maple syrup and hemp seeds. Once combined, slowly pour the maple syrup and mix as you go. Bring the mixture to a dough-ey texture by kneading the flour as you pour in the syrup. Divide into 6 parts and roll into balls. Sprinkle the hemp seeds out on a plate and roll the balls in the pile until they’re covered. Refrigerate or freeze until the coconut oil solidifies! Enjoy!

Peanut Butter & Jelly Bites

Who doesn’t love peanut butter and jelly? Only untrustworthy people, that’s who. This recipe is inspired by the classic childhood favourite- delicious crunchy peanut butter (crunchy is better, don’t argue with me), and sweet strawberry jelly, buttery toast and a large glass of milk. Only difference is, this is super healthy. Oh, and it will get you high. Don’t give this to your children! Enjoy a burst of energy from the peanut butter, and feel good about the antioxidants and fibre present in the dried fruit!

Ingredients

  • 1.5 cup dry Oats
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1 cup natural peanut butter
  • ¼ cup of finely chopped dried strawberries and blueberries
  • 6 tsp of Miss Envy Coconut oil, melted (120 mg per batch)

Easy as pie. Just mix the above ingredients together in a large bowl making sure the coconut oil is dispersed evenly. Divide into 6 and then create balls by rolling the batter in the palm of the hands. If you prefer a smoother texture you can blend all ingredieCannabis ediblesnts together in a food processor, or buy oat flour already ground! Allow the coconut oil to solidify by placing the balls in the fridge or freezer.

Edibles don’t have to be unhealthy. We can make wholesome alternatives that not only taste amazing, but also create a health-conducive high. Cut the guilt and praise your efforts as you transition away from junk food and into holistic cannabis consumption!
