Take a Break from Booze with Cannabis Cocktails
More and more people are treating marijuana as a social tool. It’s becoming more common to opt out of drinking and instead gather over a nice joint. It’s a pretty logical concept; smoking instead of drinking eliminates the hangover, and it doesn’t pollute your body or mind the way that alcohol can. At Wealth we believe marijuana is an even better social tool than booze, leaving its users in an open and more receptive state. It’s the perfect plant to share amongst friends to get the giggles and deep life chats brewing.
For these recipes we will be using a THC marijuana tincture in place of alcohol. Tinctures are by far the oldest method of consuming marijuana (and most plant-based medicines in fact!). The process uses distilled alcohol to extract the cannabinoids and terpenes found in the marijuana’s trichomes (crystals). The result: a potent liquid that can help relieve pain, give you energy, put you at ease, and get you comfortably high.
At your next dinner or hang-out skip the booze and try infusing your cocktails with a marijuana tincture! When creating your cocktails be mindful of dosage; if you plan to be drinking multiple cocktails you should start with a small dose of 1-2 drops. If you plan to consume just one cocktail you can dose as high as 50 mg/drink to start. Remember that ingestibles take longer to hit, so wait up to 2 hours to feel it’s effects if you’re starting with a heavy dose. Check out our tincture article for more information on dosing. Below are some recipes to get you started.
Peach & Pot Cocktail
This cocktail will please those who love a good sweet drink. It’s light, fizzy, and pairs well with the distinct taste of marijuana. This one is delicious and so simple you can throw it together in a jiffy.
Prep time: 4 minutes
- 1 sliced peach
- 1 bottle of peach soda
- ¼ cup orange juice
- 3 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 2 dashes of orange bitters (optional)
In a large cocktail shaker combine the orange juice, lemon juice, sugar, ice and bitters. Shake it up until everything is well blended and the ice has melted a little bit. Strain out the ice and divide the liquid into 4 glasses. Top with THC tincture and peach soda then stir. Garnish with a peach slice and voila!
This is a fun twist on the classic mojito. Mojitos are a great refreshing summer drink. Double up the recipe and bring a jug to your next barbeque rendezvous!
Prep time: 5 minutes
- 10 mint sprigs
- 5 tablespoons of fresh lime juice
- 4 tablespoons of sugar
- THC tincture
- Club Soda to top it off
Put your mint leaves in the bottom of a cocktail shaker. Muddle them up, releasing their terpenes and scent. Then add in a handful of ice, your lime juice, and the sugar. Give it a nice shake (1-2 minutes) and divide the concoction into 4 glasses. Next add in your dose of tincture and give it a good stir. Top the whole thing off with some club soda and a lime wedge to garnish. If you happen to have fresh marijuana leaves you could throw some in the glass for decoration, they won’t get you high but they definitely look cool.
What happens when you cross a Dark & Stormy with a Margarita? A ginger margarita. Absolutely delicious, warming and energizing, the ginger is a nice immune booster. You’ll be the world’s coolest host if you serve these at your next taco party (taco parties are a “good host” essential, just saying).
Prep Time: 10 minutes
- 2 cups of ginger beer
- 3 tbsp simple syrup (mix 3 tbsp of sugar with 3 tbsp of water and let sit for 10 minutes)
- ½ cup fresh lime juice
- 1 chunk of fresh ginger
- Coarse sea salt and sugar for rim
Before starting, place your margarita glasses in the freezer to chill. Once chilled, pull them out and use a lime wedge to wet the rim. Place your coarse salt and sugar in a thick pile on a plate and twist your rim into it. In a large jug combine the above ingredients, along with your chosen dose of THC tincture. Stir it vigorously until all parts are well combined and then pour the mixture into your margarita glasses. Garnish with a lime wedge and some grated ginger. Enjoy!
